How to Rectify iMessage “Waiting for Activation” error on iPhone 

Me & some of my iPhone users friend always get stuck with iMessage “Waiting for activation” error. Which is due to many reasons. And fixing this error is like draining all your strength and patience with no solution. So we decided to dig out the solution. As many of you may also receive this error in iOS 11, iOS10 or iOS 9 but will not let your strength go in drain.

In this post we have explained the all possible reasons for “Actiavtion Error” in iMeesage and steps to fix the error.

Reason for Issue(Waiting for Activation Error in iMessage on iPhone):

  • Internet connection may be the first reason for which you should look for. If your iPhone don’t have a working network or will have wifi issue it’ll cause iMessage activation problem. So always keep cellular enabled in your iphone.
  • Carrier settings pending updation or some changes in settings.
  • Date & Time settings. Might be your time zone is not correctly set and your iPhone upholds the incorrect time. So go to General > then select time zone “set automatically”. This will help your iPhone to hold correct time.
  • May be you have not listed your contact no in your iPhone App. You can check it on top of your contacts (My number). If not listed there go to Settings>Phone>My Number(now enter your number)

Solutions to Fix iMessage  “Waiting for Activation Error” in iOS 11, iOS 10 or in  iOS9 on iPhone:

Solution 1) While you are facing this error check your Internet connection:

If Internet connection is the issue for this error go to Settings>Wi-Fi or Cellular> Tap to turn off the switch>Reboot your device > Tap to turn on Wi-Fi or Cellular

After processing this if you find that it is still not resolving your issue, then rest the network settings. This results as deletion of all existing network settings and will return you to factory settings.

Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Solution 2) Check your carrier settings & contact carrier support team:

Step 1- Enable Wi-Fi or Cellular on your device & Open Settings> then Go to General> Tap on About (& Check if any update is available)

If its not updated to latest version update it. You can see the version of your Carrier settings next to carrier.

Note: Never forget to download the carrier settings for your new carrier whenever you insert new SIM card into your iPhone.

Step 2- Check with Carrier support team that if your Carrier supports iMessage or not. They will inform you about any limiting condition on your iPhone for iMessage, blocks or filters on text messages.

Solution 3) Turn Off/On iMessage & Rest your device:

Step 1: Open Settings app> Messages>Turn Off iMessage.

Step 2: Hold Home buttons & on/off button together for about 10-15 secs to reboot your iOS device.  And if you are trying to reboot iPhone 7/7 Plus then hold volume down button and Home button together.

Step 3: Now turn on iMessage after rebooting.

Soluion 4) Apple ID Sign- Out & Sign-In

Step 1. Go to Settings>Message, scroll down untill you see ‘Send & Receive’ and tap on it.

Step 2. Now Tap on the Apple ID and then press Sign Out. Switch off iMessage now

Step 3. Wait for a while (turn on/off Wifi) and then switch ON iMessage.

Step 5. Enter your Apple ID details now and try to reactivate iMessage

Any of these  solutions will definitely fix iMeeasge “Waiting for Activation” error. If not then simply do one thing. Go and update your device to the latest version.

Go on Settings> General> Software Update

If there will be any update it will start taking new update and if no update available then restore your iPhone with iTunes. And don’t forget to take the back up of your device before restoring it.
